National Pizza Day memories

33 years ago, I started my first commercial studio in Miami. The 180 NE 39th Street second floor studio was a happening place on many professional levels. Great work, clients and fun promotions. Like a railroad flat, it even had a darkroom I built myself and souped a lot of B&W work for Marshalls and other clients (now the location was razed and it's the new Design District). This 1993 promotion was a Polaroid Transfer edition of 100, that I sealed in vacuum wrap after placing a few drops of garlic oil in the "box" under a napkin. Note the kitschy copy and my old red-splash logo! After I started sending them out in small groups, the postmaster of Buena Vista personally called me. He ordered me to "cease and desist" immediately. The mail carriers complained that the collection boxes were smelling of garlic. It ended up they were

smellin what I was selling... I was the new creative arty local food photographer in town. It basically worked as a small scale promo.

I have since worked for Pizza Hut,Burger King, Wendys without making a big "stink". The Polaroid transfers are now valuable NFT originals.
